I'll be starting on yet another temporary assignment tmr. Guess what I'll be doing.
Really, humour me.

Computers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hard to believe, I know. Dhanya the IT-Bimbo, selling home systems and laptops. Boggles the mind, don't it!
I quit Multimedia & Infocomm Technology in polytechnic cos I got too close to computers and IT shit and found it soooo boring, I wld have died had I stayed on for more than 6 months. Learning abt CPU parts nearly killed me.
And here I am, on my way to signing a 3-month contract with Dell!
The pay is fanatastico tho. That plays the hugest part in my current willingness to take up the offer.
Plus, I love ppl. Doesn't matter if they're screaming at me for something somebody else did or gazing adoringly at my ass; I love them all the same. Plays the 2nd hugest part.
3rd hugest is how I keep being told Dell is a great company to work for. Mmm.
So! Tmr's my first day, and it's at a roadshow at Causeway Point. Roadshow-ing will be for 4 days only, and a week or so after will be contract proper.
I hate Causeway Point. But, the ppl I'm gonna be working with seem preeeetty cool, so... good lah. I'm even travelling to (frikkin) Woodlands with one of my groupies, this muslim guy of whose race I can't determine, from Tampines.
Yep.
The ad agency I was working for till last monday, called today to see if I was keen on a permanent position they have open. I was like, heeelll yeaahh! I conveyed my salary expectations and was told I'll receive positive/negative news soon. Hope I didn't scare them off. And they jolly well react fast, before I sign this 3-month contract.
*examines nails with an air of importance*
I quite often find myself without a job. I just can't stick to one cos it ends up sucking, or I end up sucking at it. And I'll be back to job-hunting. Anonymous person, shush!!
As I was saying, my occupation status will be house-daughter for a month or 2, and when I do get a job offer, I swear, other job offers just spring up. Like Natasha Bedingfield's vision of babies springing up like daisies.
It's aaaalways like that, y'know. I had to turn down an interview for some customer service position at AIA Tampines today cos I had to attend some training shit. Hope nothing much's lost on my side.
Maybe I shld reschedule.
I am boring myself, terribly. Computers, laptops, jobs, Causeway Point.
I have a feeling I'll meet weird ppl at Causeway Point. Bet I'll have loads to blog abt.
:-D

*dies of happification*
I do miss the skin twinnie did for me, tho. It was lovely ah.
But like all good things, it had to come to an end. *sniggers while Nelly Furtado croons in the background*
By the way, if you don't see a huge eye on this page, photobucket's acting up. The white space isn't supposed to be there. Yep.
Such a boring post.
Lunch beckons. Toodles!

I had this book when I was way younger, about the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Was a really thin children's book, with illustrations, and I had no idea it was a true story. Of sorts. I rmbr being kinda disturbed abt it, cos I wasn't given any idea as to what actually happened to the 130 children after they were led into the marvellous cave.
In case the details you got are fuzzy, or you just aren't aware of the existence of such a tale, here's an excerpt from it's wikipedian explanation;
The Pied Piper of Hamelin is a legend, documented by the Brothers Grimm (Der Rattenfänger von Hameln, which translates to "The Ratcatcher of Hamelin"), which tells of an unusual disaster that occurred in the town of Hamelin (Hameln), Germany, 26 June 1284.
In 1284, the town of Hamelin was suffering from a rat infestation. One day, a man claiming to be a rat-catcher approached the villagers with a solution. They promised to pay him for the removal of the rats. The man accepted, and thus played a musical pipe to lure the rats with a song into the Weser river, where all of them drowned.
Despite his success, the people reneged on their promise and refused to pay the rat-catcher. The man left the town angrily, but returned some time later, on June 26th, seeking revenge.

While the inhabitants were in church, he played his pipe again, this time attracting the children of Hamelin. One hundred and thirty boys and girls followed him out of the town, where they were lured into a cave and never seen again. Depending on the version, at most two children remained behind (one of whom was lame and could not follow quickly enough) who informed the villagers what had happened when they came out of the church.
Other versions (but not the traditional ones) claim that the Piper returned the children after the villagers paid several times the original amount of gold.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pied_piper
Damn interesting, ah?
Read more of it, it gets fascinating. And the site links published are worth reading too, cos they've quite different perceptions as to what really happened; one theroy says all the kids were killed, and another says they were willingly led to places where they set up their own villages. There was even a stained glass window that depicted the story, but it's apparently no more, and we only have descriptions of it. Going by those observations, Hans Dobbertin, a cyptographer, who just passed away last yr, came up with a version of the glass window. Been searching for a pic of it online for the past 20 min, but to no avail! Oh well.
If you find it, can show me? And if you stumble upon any interesting portrayals/illuminations, gimme! I wld be most interested.

I'm sure you're familiar with the term 'read between the lines'. And I'm preeetty sure that if you're reading this, you're a young(ish) person, so, you shld be aware of the more offensive meaning the phrase holds, usually meant while displaying your hand with its 2nd, 3rd and 4th digits sticking solidly out.
Like this:

A friendlier version wld be,

So, you're frikkin pissed with someone and you want them to know they're shit and contemplate using the 'read between the lines' thing, cos it's a rude gesture, obviously. Then you think, "Alamak, I saw that primary school kid use it on her grandma yesterday. I got to come up with something btr and cooler!" Now that's when, if you're smart enough, the idea of the super fuck springs to your mind.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Tadaaa!!

I present to you, the super fuck!!
My middle finger has got a pattern on it that resembles a phallus, and it's got supposed drops of urine on the fingers beside it. Aaaand, a tiny representation of the penis on my little finger(to say,'you're such a loser, your dick's like that!') , and another on my thumb too, which, unfortunately, wasn't photographed.
There you have it. The perfect, illustrated, cheemified insult.
Use it on someone. The reaction you'd get will first be this:

and once the full implication of your manicured nails are registered, you'll get this:

Marvellousness, yes?
You got a fantastic insult readily available AND, you have an excuse to get your nails done if you're a guy. What more cld any bitch ask for?
Get your super fuck done today!

I am officially back to full-time job hunting. SUCH a bore/headache!!
Oh well, I guess I have more time to bake my cakes, smell my dead/dried roses, get laid(riiight. sigh.), lose weight(the sis says my arms look slimmer!!!!!), bake an extra chocolatey cake for the sis and do my nails myself.
Speaking of nails, later, I will have to introduce the fantastic idea of the super fuck to you guys. It is so mind-blowing, every nail salon shld offer it. Yes, twinnie?
I am becoming such a girly girl. Tsk.
Off to meet a recruitment agent.
Toodles!

I am officially plump.
PLUMP PLUMP PLUMPETTY PLUMP!
And it is soooooooo depressing. It's not due to the bothersome images of perfect(?) models. I am sooooo sad bcos, I look like shit.
Honest!
I nvr used to have a serious muffin-top problem. Those of you who know me well shld know that I used to be a bit of a fatso till sec 2/3, which is when I worked out like shit to lose all the weight I'd been carrying since primary 4. I've stretch marks for proof of the sudden weight loss. And I always wore my jeans and skirts at the waist (absolutely yucky, I know), which is why I nvr had the muffin-top problem even when I was fat.
But NOW.
I can't wear any damn pair of jeans without my bottom half looking like a frikkin huge muffin!
In case, you're wondering wtf all this muffin business is abt, here're a few illustrations;

I believe that's clear enough.
So, as I was saying, my 3 favourite pairs of low-rise jeans just don't flatter me anymore, unless I put on a loooong, loose top. I can't even wear those adorably tight long tees. Sigh.
Those sleepless nights spent preparing and delightedly devouring baked potatoes with sour cream and tuna, my favourite snack, have turned out to be totally evil. And the cheesy macaroni dishes (very much like the one I had at Kenny Rogers *gulps* today) and self-made rich chocolate cakes and sugar-coated peanuts and cold slices of cheese and god, the list can go on and on.
I DO workout, just not regularly.
The mom has hidden the dumbells cos she disapproves of my using them. -_-
That woman thinks I'm skinny. She insists on me having a proper dinner, and, she's a terrific cook. Scolds me whenever I do anything resembling a workout. I'm soon gonna look like this;

Siiiiiiiigh.
Watch I progressively expand.

You might not spot a very visible change here, but it's frikkin visible in person ah. Having an obvious tummy isn't fun; doesn't matter how obvious, as long as it is. Bah.
Know what? I'm gonna get off the comp now, complete a minimum of 75 sit ups, do this wonderful workout I got out a book that's for the ass and legs, and allow myself to stop worrying and whining like a vain kid who got her hair shaven off.
Temporarily, at least.
It's 3.31am. Time to get crackin'.
To a new me! *toasts*
And if you've got weight problems, to a new you too, hopefully.

Men.
Why is it that the older we get, the more we know, and the shittier they seem as a whole?
Before I go on, I have to state this clearly; I am doing some super-generalisation.
Seriously, why? Yes, I'm barely 21, but I have close friendly/sisterly relations with older women whose ages go up to almost 60, and their ideas regarding men aren't very different from mine. Sure, there're some men in (my and) their lives that're exceptional and by that, I mean love-worthy.
But.
There's the man that seemed love-worthy at first, but not soooo worthy after we realised that the reason the wifey was all alone at home constantly while she was pregnant was that he got himself not 1, but 2 extra curricular activity partners at work. The divorce came 8 years after and he apologised, saying he's a slut by nature.
There's also the man who impregnated his girlfriend, told her he loved her, and just left her alone to face the abortion and whatever came after.
The man who fantasises abt his wife's sisters.
The uncle who begged his niece to sleep with him and showed her porn mags and handed her some tissue paper to wipe herself with up in case she was wet. She was 16, and she didn't even know where or why she was supposed to be wet. He's even carried her when she was a baby.
The man who raped his many teenaged daughters(with his shitty wives' consents), for the lamest reason, if it cld even be called a reason; teenage guys can't be trusted. Sounds like he cldn't trust other guys to rape his daughters well enough, so he forced the burden upon himself.
Doesn't all this amaze you? Sure, you've heard of such things, maybe have even experienced something similar yourself. Still, honestly, doesn't it just blow your mind, hearing about used women and their tormentors?
What do they actually have on their minds? How do they manage to have dicks for minds and their brains in their asses? How do they even live with themselves? Their crummy, crappy selves?
The Singaporean man who raped a few-month-old baby girl with her hands tied behind her back and threw her down the rubbish chute when he was done. She was dead by then, ofcos.
He is/was pure evil. Not sure if he's still alive. Imagine, he was so desperate, he had to kill a baby for sexual gratification, and he went for it.
Ever since I read that article years ago, I vowed to keep a watch over kids arnd me. And babies. And recently, I learnt the full value of keeping a watch over myself and women who are close to me.
Cos you honestly nvr know what the boogeyman looks like until he closes in on you.
P.S: There're bad women too, I know. This post's just abt men, so yeah.

My temporary assignment will soon be over, so I'm constantly JobsDB-ing. Quite a number of jobs require knowledge of Chinese, and I don't mind at all. Have a look at this tho:
-“0”-Level & above
-Computer literacy
-Able to start work with short notice
-Must be bilingual in English and Mandarin in order to communicate with all races customers
-Preferable with minimum 1 year experience in relevant field
-Singaporean, Singapore PR or Malaysian are applicable
When did knowledge of English and Mandarin become equal to being able to converse fluently with people of alllll races that exist? Amazing ah.
And here's a slightly funny one:
-Must be able to commence work immediately or at short notice
-Only Singaporean, PR and Dependent Pass Holder need to apply
-Bilingual in English and Mandarin or English and Thailand
Don't they stop to think if everything sounds alright before publishing it on a reeeeeaally popular job site? *rolls eyes*
Gonna go see my newborn and manly(you'll be surprised at how manly he looks, even as a baby) nephew at the hospital. Ahhhh lovely lovely. :-D

Looks like it's all cleared up. Somewhat. I don't know what to think, and it's probably easier this way.
Cos family or not, it's just another person.
Another person. Not me, nor my mom nor dad. It's all that shld matter. No?
Confusion is such a huge source of irritation and in my case, hesitation too. Who do I believe? I'd hate to believe me, but know what? After all that, I think I still might.
Only time and behavioural choices will tell, I guess.
I miss how my family used to be. Living together; always with each other; for each other. It's not just a physical separation. We all got too many secrets and are too quick to defend other ppl we love.
WHAT A WASTE OF ENERGY AND TIME.
Oh well. I still got my mom and dad.

The father was in a net-using mood.
Shut up, twinnie!
So. I'm temping at this ad agency at Suntec.
I looooooooove working that area. It takes me exactly 54 minutes to get to Suntec, counting from the minute I put my shoes on. An hour is preeetty ok. The place is so genuinely busy; there're always ppl walking arnd and hogging escalator space, especially at that overhead bridge from citylink that leads you right to one of the many entrances to Suntec. White ppl are so easy to spot, and I love it bcos Singapore suddenly seems kinda... wider, somehow. I wonder if the white race will truly expand here.
I always pass by Starbucks with my nose up in the air, proud of resisting my temptation to go in and get a cuppa. Knowledge of the existence of a Coffeebean outlet just a few blocks away doesn't help tho; not with the pocket, not with the diet(?) too. Getting a double vanilla ceylon latte or a moroccan mint tea latte will not help me get alert anyways. Tea lattes soothe too much.
I'd love one now tho. It's 2am and I've 5 hours left till my dad gently wakes me up. See, the alarm got spoilt, and he offered.
Why am I finding it hard to fall asleep? I am, in fact, sleepy. But not drowsy... yet. I wish I were one of those ppl who're out like a light the second they hit the pillow.
Kabby pointed out earlier that my eyes were kinda bloodshot. As did twinnie last saturday.
Btr cut out some cucumber slices and balance them on my eyeballs.
Toodles.

Last tuesday, on the 31st of July, Jay and I met Sindhu, Suchita and Patrick for dinner and dessert. Nan was supposed to be there like an hour before dinner, but she appeared mid-waffle. *rolls eyes* After our meal, the 2 Ss and Pat needed to leave cos their eyes were starting to get that half-opened look. The rest of us, plus Nan's 'friend' Vel then hopped over to Thomson area for some prata and mee hoon goreng before settling down for a bit at Liquid Kitchen.
Their chocolate martini's not too good. I think they used Hershey's Chocolate syrup as the sole choco input. I no like Hershey's syrup, so I no like the martini. I am making my own when I feel like one.
Picture time!

Kudikaari kuppai indeed.

Deontology.
According to dictionary.com;
Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1)
de·on·tol·o·gy /ˌdiɒnˈtɒlədʒi/ [dee-on-tol-uh-jee]
–noun ethics, esp. that branch dealing with duty, moral obligation, and right action.
And according to wikipedia.org;
Deontological ethics or deontology (Greek: δέον (deon) meaning obligation or duty) is "the theory of duty or moral obligation."[1] Deontology is also known as nonconsequentialism.
Deontologists argue the rightness or wrongness of an action does not depend on the goodness or badness of its consequences. In contrast, consequentialism holds that the right act or system of rules is the one that maximizes or satisfies good consequences as determined by an impartial determination of good and evils. Deontological ethics typically is thought to involve two important elements: prerogatives and constraints. Prerogatives deny that agents must always seek to perform actions with optimum consequences. Constraints place limits on what actions agents may undertake in an effort to bring about their own or the impartial good.
Isn't that frikkin interesting? I had no idea there were actually theories like these. Absolute ignorance, I know.
In case you're interested, here's more.
Deontological theories
The most famous deontological theory is that of the German philosopher Immanuel Kant. (I insert here, that's almost as bad as Gaylord Focker) In his theory, Kant claimed that various actions are morally wrong if they are inconsistent with the status of a person as a free and rational being, and that, conversely, acts that further the status of people as free and rational beings are morally right. Therefore, Kant claimed, we all have a duty to avoid the first type of act and perform the second type of act.
Kant believed that this duty was absolute. He drew a distinction between contingent duties, which only need to be carried out under certain empirical circumstances, and categorical duties, which always need to be carried out, because they are based on a priori reasoning about the general nature of things, and thus apply no matter what the circumstances are. Kant thought of the duty to promote human freedom and rationality as the only truly categorical duty. He called this duty the categorical imperative, and described it at great length in his writings. Of the five formulations of the categorical imperative Kant developed, the three most well-known and significant are:
-Act only according to that maxim by which you can also will that it would become a universal law.
-Act in such a way that you always treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of any other, never simply as a means, but always at the same time as an end.
-Act as though you were through your maxims a law-making member of a kingdom of ends.
Modern day deontolgists include Thomas Nagel and Frances Kamm. Of the contemporary deontological theories, Kamm's Principle of Permissible Harm has attracted the most recent attention, and is an effort to derive a deontological constraint which coheres with our considered case judgments while also relying heavily on Kant's Categorical Imperative. The Principle states that one may harm in order to save more if and only if the harm is an effect or an aspect of the greater good itself. This Principle is meant to address what Kamm feels are most people's considered case judgments, many of which involve deontological intutions. For instance, Kamm argues that we believe it would be impermissible to kill one person to harvest his organs in order to save the lives of 5 others. Yet we think it is morally permissible to divert a runaway trolley that would kill 5 innocent and immobile people onto a side track where 1 innocent and immobile person will be killed. Kamm believes the Principle of Permissible Harm explains the moral difference between these and other cases, and more importantly expresses a constraint telling us exactly when we may not act to bring about good ends—such as in the organ harvesting case.
Criticism of deontology
The most pressing difficulty for deontologist philosophers is justifying constraints. Robert Nozick famously points out what has become known as the paradox of deontology. If we are truly concerned about rights (such as the right not to be harmed in certain ways expressed by Kamm's Principle of Permissible Harm) then it seems logical we should seek to minimize violations of these rights. However, deontological constraints themselves prohibit such action. For example, consider a case where someone has maliciously sent a trolley hurtling towards 5 innocent and immobile people at the end of a track. The only way to stop the trolley and save the 5 is to throw 1 innocent bystander in front of the trolley. If the 5 are killed, this would constitute 5 violations of the PPH. If the 1 is thrown in the way, this constitutes one violation of the PPH. However, the Principle of Permissible Harm clearly rules out throwing 1 in front of the trolley. Hence the paradox. In order to respect the rights of the five, deontologists tell us we must respect the rights of the 1.
Many Act or Case utilitarians offer critiques of deontology as well as Rule Utilitarianism. Jeremy Bentham, an early utilitarian philosopher, criticized deontology on the grounds that it was essentially a dressed-up version of popular morality, and that the unchanging principles that deontologists attribute to natural law or universal reason are really a matter of subjective opinion. John Stuart Mill, who lived in 19th century Britain, argued that deontologists usually fail to specify which principles should take priority when rights and duties conflict, so that deontology cannot offer complete moral guidance.
Shelly Kagan, a current professor of philosophy at Yale University, notes in support of Mill and Bentham that under deontology, individuals are bound by constraints (such as the requirement not to murder), but are also given options (such as the right not to give money to charity, if they do not wish to). His line of attack on deontology is first to show that constraints are invariably immoral, and then to show that options are immoral without constraints.
Another, unrelated critique of deontological ethics comes from aretaic theories, which often maintain that neither consequences nor duties but "character" should be the focal point of ethical theory. The ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle, for example, sought to describe what characteristics a virtuous person would have, and then argued that people should act in accordance with these characteristics.

On an entirely unrelated note, I've finally gotten the pictures taken on our anniversary from Jay. The man was sooo lazy abt sending them over via the net, and he came over to my place with the stuff in a thumbdrive. Weirdo.
Heeere they are!

Lentil soup and bread. I love the soup tho it's not very delicious. Comfort food, sorta.
I love Sofra!

He's giving me a come-hither look while lapping at his soup. Mmm.

Oblivious to his intentions.

Analysing the Turkish tea cup thing while waiting for the kebabs.

THE KEBABS.
I LOVE SOFRA!!

They even provided us with weapons. Yet another reason to love Sofra.

He's acting all demure and shy.

Playing dead.

At Starbucks at Bugis Junction, the place we had our first drink together. He's making the Fresh Prince's 'i love you' face and he hates the pic but I love it, so here's a minute version. :-D

Thumbwrestling. The activity we indulged in first time we met too.

Blatant cheating.

He tore off the label on my shawl. Since I complained I wldn't know how to wash it later, he got a pic of it for my future reference.

Now you all know the shape and rough size of Jay's camera.

Same stuff.

Same stuff too.

Yeeeeeep.

I think his eyes look damn pretty in this shot. :-D
Mom's screaming.

Toodles!
